I'm heading to Region K for an archery deer hunt this year. I have permits for Bear River Divide and Medicine Butte HMA's. Anyone have experience hunting these areas? Is there a meat processor in Kemmerer or Evanston? I found a processor in Mountain View but none in Kemmerer or Evanston yet.

Switched this hunt from archery to rifle. Anyone ever camp out there? Trying to decide if I will bring my trailer or stay in Evanston.

Well this hunt is winding down and no bucks. I can glass up 30-40 deer in an hour but no horns. Not sure if the bucks are holding tight in the quakies or if they are somewhere else. There are roads everywhere so if you hike 2 miles you will cross 4 roads. Any suggestions?

Norcalhunter, I pm'd you earlier in the year. I was fortunate to have one of those hunts that went according to plan. Took this buck on the first morning by about 8:20. I hiked down about 1 mile to the spot I had envisioned by just after 8:00. Did not take long for him to come out, and a 130 yard shot. A short trail job and found him in a bed in the aspens. Took 3 trips to pack out, all uphill, but a satisfying hunt

I dont know anything about K but I would expect bucks would be hiding out away from the does and holding tight waiting for the rut to start right now. I would find the most remote places I could or places where no one it bothering them and glass at first and last light and still hunt the quakies during the day. Good luck!

Nice buck Lonehunter. I would have been very happy to take that one. Spent every morning and night covering ground and glassing. Probably saw over 200 different deer neer the quakies. My thought was the bucks were probably by themselves but could not locate any. I would check areas in the sage and junipers but wasn't seeing much sign. I still had a good time being there. If I went back there I would show up before the opener and scout versus arriving 6 days into the hunt. These deer see a lot of pressure.

Good chance pressure the first few days before you got there pushed the bucks into other areas. Sounds like an area you would need to get to know to figure out where they go once they get pushed. First days can be good too in an area like that if you have an idea where they will move too someone might push a buck right to you. At least you had a good time and saw some deer even if they werent what you were looking for.

Musket Man, that is exactly what happened to me. I know the area somewhat and got to an area early that I had observed deer liked to feed in and was a crossing area from one canyon to the next. The above buck got pushed to me early on the opener. Some luck, some knowledge.
