Hi all,
Buddy of myne hunted Region 3 in the quake lake-hegben lake area in the 1990s. We were looking at going out next fall. Anybody hunt the area at all? Afraid elk numbers might be down from the bumscoot I hear from other hunters just outside west Yellowstone. Thanks all

Welcome to the forum! Would you introduce and tell us a bit about yourself? What do you want to hunt?I think the wolves have hit that area pretty hard. Alot has changed in that part of MT since the 90's.

The wolves hit that area pretty hard. There are still elk there but they are pocketed. I would look to the Snowcrest's or Gravelly's. I hear rumor there's a government guy in that country keeping the wolves in check. The bulls won't be monsters by any means, but there's a few in the 300-320 range that can be found with hard work. Rifle season and all bets are off, lot's more pressure because the access is not all that difficult. Also, look along the Montana/Idaho border south of Red Rocks. Wolves are in that country too but be forewarned, I don't think there's much of a check on them there.

Hey D>\.T., Jr. I was planning a mid- nov. rifle hunt in the Snowcrest range this fall. Will the hunting pressure have all the elk pushed out of there by then. I talked to the biol. for the area and he said its best to miss the first 2 weeks of the season and most of the hunter would be gone. Whats your thoughts on taking a antlered bull at this time? Any info is helpful.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies! I am hearing a lot of the same about that area. I am a houndsmen and would love to take them out and run some cats...would not mind taking a wolf out of the population either.
