The previous post nailed it. First check out your local archery shops. Goto more than one if there are several in your area. Avoid the big box stores stick to archery shops and shoot the various brands. Once you know what brand you like. I like Hoyt, but there are quite a few good brands. Find the brand that feels good too you. Then all you need to do is research last years models and find the best bow in your price range. eBay, Craigslist are good places to look. Also some archery shops will let there customers sell used bows out of their stores. When buying used take your time, insist on shooting it and look it over for any damage very closely before you buy. Don't rush the purchase and if you are unsure back away.

I'll be going to my local shop in the next couple of weeks to do some testing. I've held several different brands and model, but haven't tried each one individually. Thank you everyone for the great input here.

Went to my shop and held a couple different type Bows, the guy recommended a Hoyt PowerX or a PSE Bowmadness. I've been searching the internet and can probably get a good used set up for around $350 -$500. I'm also looking at some used Hoyt Rampage XT or if I save up possibly a Hoyt Nitrium.

I've got a 5-year-old Elite Pulse bow that was recently updated with all new limbs, string, cable and cams. It's basically a new bow except for the riser. It's a very fast (rated at 340 fps), smooth-drawing bow with a solid back wall and has an 80% let-off. I've shot it very little while I've had it, though I killed several deer with it, and have only shot a dozen arrows through it since I got it back with all the new parts.

One of our sponsors gave me a new bow and that's the only reason I'm selling it. I'd sell it for $350 TYD. You might want to put your own rest, sight and quiver on it. It has a whisker biscuit and single pin sight now.

That's a great price on a great bow!!

I just bought a "used" Prime Rize for $550.00 off ebay. The thing looks brand new! Then I went on e-bay and bought a top end QAD drop away rest for $55.00 and I bought a Spott Hogg MR 3 sight off a guy on archery talk for $220.00. All together I paid $825.00 for a package that would cost $1300.00 new. I'm super pumped! The last bow I bought was a new Mathews Conquest (20 years ago). I'm 50 now - so this is probably the last bow I buy because I'm not that guy that buys a new bow every couple of years. I did a lot of homework before I bought this one. Lot's of great used bows out there at pretty good prices.
