Deer populations rebounding in Utah, but state seeks fewer hunting permits in 2023

Utah's estimated deer population is up about 10%, but the ongoing winter is factoring in a plan to reduce deer hunting permits again.

I was a bit surprised by some of the proposed tag suggestions like buck antelope tags going up.

Link in the news story for anyone that wants to attend region meeting. Also the deadlines for anyone wanting to submit thoughts online.

Final numbers are to be determined at wildlife board meeting on May 4th.

While Utah got hit hard by this winter's storms most of the state wasn't too bad as far as where the animals winter at.

On what I put in for I have:

Slim to very slim chance on my bison tag with 24 points. They only let a single non resident tag out so no bonus tags.

Slim to better than average for my Book Cliff muzzle loader deer tag, I'll just cross my fingers to pull one of the 4 non resident tags.

Pronghorn, better than a 50% chance at my unit.

No matter what I'll get my Manti San Rafael muzzle loader deer tag if I don't draw the Book Cliffs.

Anyone on here up to going to the RAC meeting in Green River on 4/19? I just may drive on over, it is a 3 1/2 hour drive but it might be worth it.
