Prepping for the Bear Hunts!

Here is the bear I got last spring. During the spring I try to find the first hillside that has green grass and then just sit on it and wait, and the bears will show up. I prefer hunting bears in the spring just for this reason alone because I have found that the bears will stick around the green grass and give me a better opportunity to make a stalk in on them. The only tricky part is when you find a breeding pair then the stalk can be a little more tricky.

I second(or third) the type of sign that GP and Jason watch for!
Clear cuts with old rotten stumps and logs are a super location in OR, especially during the transition from huckleberries to Mt. ash or acorns. I've seen bears work amazingly hard just for a few bugs(ants, grubs etc.), also watch for more subtle sign like rocks rolled or logs moved slightly out of place. One other thing we see a lot is ground nest of yellow jackets dug up for the larva. Almost all my bears( except those I called and damage) have been taken spot and stalk, using timing of current food sources to get my first look at them. One other note is most of my fall bears (probably 80%) have been taken within an hour of dark.
