Ok I'm from Mn and will be heading to Idaho for for a 21 day in the field hunt in the sawtooths.
Any way if fortunate enough to shoot a trophy animal what should I do after I cape out everything and split the lips etc:
Being that I will not be able to have a electric supply to cool or freeze the hide. I will have dry ice.
The taxidermist I work with here in Mn told me not to salt the hide! As that was to be the plan if a animal was shot on first day. How will hide not be slipped buy time I get back to Mn!? Any suggestions be great!!! Thanks so

My taxidermist told me that if you plan on freezing the hide DO NOT SALT IT.
If you can't freeze it it must be salted, then re-salted a couple of times as the moisture is pulled out.

Ignore the foolish advice of your taxidermist and salt the hide. There is a 100% chance that at the end of your 21 day hunt your hide will slip if it is not salted or frozen. Also, keep the hide out of the sun.

I might check with another Tax, or possibly yours thought you could freeze it. If you will have dry ice the entire time, it will freeze the hide, in that case, no need for salt. I'd also ask if the ears had to be turned/pulled or not, I suspect for as long as you may have a hide that will need to be done too if it can't be kept frozen.

First off have you ever prepped a cape such as turning the ears and splitting the lips? Are you backpacking back in, riding horses or truck camping?

If you have never actually prepped a cape and are truck camping I would suggest that you find a local taxidermist that can take care of the cape properly and then either ship it to your taxidermist or even to your taxidermists tannery.

It doesn't take much for a cape that has been improperly cared for to start slipping hair.

Other than that I would start watching YouTube videos on taking care of the cape in the field.

I would try to look up a meat locker in the nearest town and make prior arrangements. Just in case you get lucky.
As being a taxidermist myself, I would not suggest trying to split the lips nose septum and eyes. Also, you have to turn the ears. This stuff takes a little practice from repetition to get good at. You could end up wrecking your cape!! At the very least, having a pissed off taxi.

I do have experience splitting lips and turning ears. Eye lids.

Our group will be having wall tent. At a spot where truck can be stashed per say
Atv to trail head and back pack in 4 miles out camp few nights then back to base and so on till it's time to go home
At base camp we will have dry ice in an awesome homemade cooler box filled dry ice and saw dust
after speaking to my taxidermist last night while picking up a black bear mount. I threw it out there to him about the upcoming seasons
And rates and so on. And during our discussions he mentioned don't salt. That kinda threw me as I Have salted many bear and white tails. And not had one word mentioned that this was incorrect field care? Especially with this type of event plann ed

If you know how to properly flesh the cape, as well as, turn the ears, eye lids, nose and lips, salting seems to be a great choice. It will need to be done sooner or later anyway.
When the problem comes is if it's salted, but not turned or fleshed right. It makes it a pain to finish turning when it shrinks up and if the salt doesn't penetrate the hair might still slip in the un-turned or un-fleshed areas.
If you're able to freeze it completely then that is also a good choice. I'm guessing he thinks you are able to freeze it with the dry ice. Just a guess anyway.
It still sounds to me that turning, fleshing and salt is your best bet.
