When filling out the application process for Colorado, they have a box that says "do you currently have preference points for this species" or something on those lines... What will happen if you DO have pp and forget to check this box? A friend was applying with a group hunt and said he forgot to check that box and now worries that he will lose his points and/or cause the group hunt application to be voided.

Just for info. I'm not a big fan of the group app process. IMO just too many errors can be made that could mess it up for the whole group. Just heard too many bad stories. When executed and filled out correctly though I think its a good thing.

I remember reading last year about a group of four with 14 elk points. The group leader got the hunt code wrong and put in the code for a spike hunt, which naturally they drew.
If you're a group leader, write down the full hunt code and everyone's ID for that state and whatever else the state's online app calls for and email it to the other members before you apply so they can check it all. Circle the hunt on the application booklet and send that page along with it.
After you apply, email the receipt to the rest of the guys the same day so they can check it again in case you messed up on the actual application. It may seem like over-kill, but you can't afford to be that guy that got everyone the spike hunt or cow hunt.

I do a group application in Arizona for our spring javelina hunts and every year I make sure of the hunt number a couple of times.
Arizona has been known to change hunt numbers so I don't go by what it was last year. You really need to pay attention to what is going on when you are submitting applications. A friend of mine used 9 or 10 antelope points here in Colorado to draw a doe archery tag that you could of gotten as a left over. He did manage to get his points back after he got his tag in the mail and got over the shock.
