Prairie dogs around Billings

Hey all, anybody do much prairie dog shooting in the Billings/Yellowstone County area? I'm new to the concept but went this weekend anyway solo and found a few colonies on BLM/state land, not a lot of dogs out but got a few anyway. Is it just early yet and I can expect to see more once it warms up? Also, how are most landowners with giving permission? I found a few colonies that were on private land, but so far out from civilization I couldn't find a building or even a vehicle to begin to try and track down the owners. I assume it's always best policy to ask permission first even though I feel most of them would be grateful for the pest control. Thanks in advance

I shoot them up around Roundup on occasion. One time asking permission to hunt birds a rancher asked us to blast a few pdogs once we were done hunting.

there are lots around Miles City some on state land permission is usually not hard on the others
