Hey all

We are running a Photo contest!

Here's how it will work. Post two photos of your best landscape/scenic and two of your best trophy. This is not about trophy size, it's about photo quality. Give alittle info on your camera gear set up.

Guy will do the judging at the end of the contest and will pick the top three in both categories, Landscape/scenic and trophy.

Guy will also make some comments on the other posts to give insight on how some changes could have been made to create better photos to help out for the upcoming hunting season photos.

The top three winners will receive limited addition Forum Gear and One year subscription to EHJ!

Contest will run for 30 days

Post your photos here

Good Luck! Let's see'm!

Even though I don't consider myself much of a photographer, I'll get the ball rolling on this.

First picture is of Beartooth Lake & Beartooth Butte.

Second picture is of The Pinnacles on Togwotee Pass.

Pics were shot with a Panasonic Lumix ZS5

In the summer there is a Forest service person who lives in the cabin at the base of Hawks. The patrol cabin isn't "manned" year round but definitely during hunting season there is usually someone in there pretty consistent. The Volunteer at the forest service cabin and his wife are great people who i enjoy visiting with every time i take a pack trip into that country. He has 70+years worth of stories which always makes for great times for my guests. Ill be back in there this summer with some fishing pack trips, and looking forward to it for sure.

I don't take many scenic shots, these are the best I could do from a C-206 at 130mph. Some really nice rams hang out on the mountains to the left of the river valley.

I hope to add some successful brown bear photos in a couple of weeks.

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-HX1, which has been a fine little camera. Hopefully the new "Big" camera, a Canon 70d will help me improve.

Here are a few from me. I believe these were all taken with a Nikon point n shoot. Very early or very late is when I get the best light for pics.

Yea it is hard to only pick 2 landscapes!

My favorite harvest pic.

The wife's first buck she got in 2013.

Well, I'm attaching a couple photos for each but I'll start with the hunt photos. I'll also add what recipe I use on the photos. I think software helps boost a pictures appeal, essence and helps bring out some emotion and soul of capturing the moment.

The Buck picture was taken way back in 2011 in Montana. Single photo with a point and shoot camera, Kodak EasyShare Z981, ISO 64, Aperture f 5.6, Shutter Speed 1/320, focal length 4.6 mm. I used software to bring out some detail, sharpness, reduce noise and remove some shadowing. I used Apple's Aperture software with Topaz Labs plug-ins, Denoise, and Photomatix Pro plugin.

Jump to the Pig Hunt picture, yesterday April, 26 2014. I have a bit better camera now that gives me some better flexibility. I always shoot in RAW now. Canon 60D, with a ISO 100, Aperture f 22, Shutter Speed 1/5, focal length 18 mm. This time I used three photos, exposed, underexposed and over exposed. I used Apple's Aperture software with Topaz Labs plug-ins, Denoise, Clarity and Photomatix Pro and Viveza 2 plug in from the Google Nik collection.

I will post a couple landscapes, later and what recipe I use but typically I use the software noted about in yesterdays Pig hunt picture. Every picture is a bit different is what and how I adjust in each software or take a picture but the software above is what I use most and wanted to share that with folks on my process. It is awesome to see more posts about photos and photography here on the forum and a focus there.

My camera is a Canon 60D, EF-S 18-135mm lens. I typically like to shoot at ISO 100, three photos, exposed, underexposed and over exposed all shot in RAW format. I used Apple's Aperture software with Topaz Labs plug-ins, Denoise, Clarity and Photomatix Pro on both photos one at Scott Beach and Yosemite Falls here in California. I really like how the HDR or these High Dynamic Range image techniques captures more of what my eye sees on sunsets and sunrises but it also captures well on landscapes in the daytime too.

You guys are hard to follow, but here's a couple of mine from the past.

I spent the night with these fire fighters during a scouting trip.
