Can anyone recommend a local meat hauler in the Pagosa Springs area? I've done a Google search on "meat packers" and "meat haulers" and have had no luck. I am planning on contacting the San Juan National Forest office once they open this morning. I read that they sometimes have a list of contacts who perform these services. Any help would be appreciated.

There are 2 in Bayfield which is west of PG Spgs:
Juicy Jerky-(970) 884-5233; Steve Jung- (970) 749-3176
I have no experience with any of them. You might also google Game Processors in Chama, NM as it is not too far away.

Thanks Colorado Cowboy. That's some good information to have. But I think I wasn't clear on what I was looking for. I'm looking for a person who will bring pack horses to a kill site and haul the meat out for us to the trail head.

I've got a buddy who hunts East of Pagosa Springs in Unit 78. He hires a group from Chama. I'll try to get a name for you.

There used to be an outfitter that operated out of the Piedra River area that would pack you out, or set you up with a drop camp. We made contact with him through the Piedra Store, but that was a few years back.

Preston Toner is a great guy and runs a really low key pack outfit. I recommend him highly.

I talked to my buddy & he said it was Silver Dollar Outfiters out of Pagosa Springs that he hired.
