Packing out Elk

I read somewhere awhile back (Can't remember where!!!!!!) that there are some guys that will, for a fee, help pack out elk. I am in Colorado and not a spring chicken anymore, so does anyone know who might do this and how to get in touch with them when I drop that big boy, about 3 miles back, next month?

Check with local outfitters in the area you will be hunting. A lot of outfitters either have a pack-out only fee or know local packers that will do it for you.

I'm almost 70, now I just pack a skillet and plan on spending a couple of months butchering it and chowing down. When its small enough for me to pack out, then I'll start home!!!! Seriously, I am sure there are folks near your hunting area that will rent some stock so you can get the job done.

I was thinking if you were going to be up in my area I might be able to help out, but, thats quite a bit away from me. Yes, getting older is no fun! Especially when the body doesn't work as well as the mind

I hunted elk for the first time last year. There was a guy a little older than you who hung out in our camp. One day he said, as he pointed way up on the mountain (about 4,000 feet higher than our camp and the basin we were hunting) "Yeah, there's definitely elk on that shelf, but you may as well take a tent and prepare to eat the SOB if you shoot one..."

A couple years ago a guy told me about Packgoats. Yes I thaught he was crazy! I researched it for several months and desided to give it a try. I now have a dozen. Not all old enough to pack yet. I took 3 to Colorado for a high country mule deer hunt, and then left
There for a elk hunt in Wyoming. Two weeks in the mountains without incident. They just worked when needed it was awesome! I
Keep them at a acreage where they keep the weeds down for the land owner and no charge for me. Hope to be hunting highcountry
