Open country Mule Deer

I'm leaving in the morning for Salmon, Id to hunt deer with the bow and was thinking about taking the Montana elk decoy. I have hunted this late archery season a few times and have never Implemented a decoy into the mix. The country I will hunting is mostly open and without much cover to stalk behind. Has anyone used a decoy to get that extra few yards to get into effective bow range? I don't have a deer decoy, but there is elk in the area.

Take it along, as it might just come in handy. If there are elk in the area you'll be hunting, it may be just the ticket to close in the last little bit for a shot if the area lacks the cover necessary to conceal yourself properly. Good luck on the hunt!

I have had great success with decoys for whitetails and antelope during pre - post rut. They also work well for late season when you are pushing deer. I don't recommend the MT decoys if it is windy for obvious reasons. Good Luck, and let us know how it works out!!

I'm sure those deer see elk all the time. It might just give you the edge you need to get just a little closer to them.

For what its worth. I once used a whitetail buck Heads Up Decoy once to arrow a turkey in the fall. I'd take it if you have room to carry it.
