It's close enough, I've been out about every weekend checking new spots and looking for another hog. Have a possible 400+ bear that's staying in a few drainages pretty consistently. Seem all of them are feeding on grass' but soon it's gonna be rose hips and then pinenuts. I'm gonna try and keep the "Jason's monster bruins" thing going guys. Have 2 tags for sure to run and now a possible 3rd. Fun is right around the corner.

Talked with my buddy last night, going to set trail cams up in some drainages and see if we can catch some bear activity this weekend. I'll get some monster "bear pooh" pics too for you IKIC.

Hi Jason, I read all of your adventures from last year. I have been blessed with a bear tag this year. In fact I have been blessed with many tags this year. I have a friend from Henderson with dogs that has volunteered to help me catch a bear. However he has several other time commitments. I would like to talk with you also and pick your brain and maybe more. Will you be at the Tonopah or Reno Bear Orientations? I would like to meet with you if possible. Thanks and God bless, Mark

Season opens Monday boys! Already to roll and see how we do, it's warm and dry out. I've had trail cams up in some travel spots but only smaller bears. I know there's a few monsters out and about and that's what we are after. I'm excited and so are the hounds!

Day 1 in the books and it was a good one. Put up a mean boar today. Beautiful light cinnamon/blonde bear. This guy swung and climbed like a monkey. Climb up, swing and slide down, pop a dog outta the tree and repeat. Dogs held him for close to 2nrs before I got there. I could tell he wasn't staying and tried to get the tag holder in but it didn't happen. He's 73 and has some knee issues, had a hard time with the nasty hike in. The bear jumped tree about a half our before the shooter got to the tree, the bear walked and fought dogs for almost 10 miles before dogs started dropping out. This bear wasn't staying anyways and it's one of hopefully several. Got some awesome video and a great run for the dogs. Bear season is on! Woohooo!!!!

Day 2 went a lot like day one. Dogs hit a track hot and heavy about 10am. Showed treed on the other side of the mountain by about 11am. Started working our way in as close as possible before walking. Wasn't a road anywhere near them that the shooter could make it in from. I tried every spot I could think of and after hours of trying had to fetch dogs without the shooter. 2 of the 4 dogs treed came out but the other 2 refused. By this time 4 hours had passed and I was still a mile away. Dogs finally pulled off the tree just as the sun was dropping, and of course it wasn't towards me. Hiked back out and had to drive around the mountain to pick them up. 7:30 I finally had all my dogs and no pics or video to show. Dogs and I are whooped, back at it Saturday. Gotta love bear season!!!

Soooo, this weekend didn't go as good as opener did. Dogs were sore footed and slow moving. Never did see a treed critter this weekend, had some races and saw a bunch of bear tracks just never did seal the deal. Dogs need a good rest and back at it next weekend.
