No hunting on Sunday????

I have seen a few articles recently about some eastern states not allowing hunting on Sunday. They seem to be old laws that some are trying to change. Im sure there were reasons behind these laws when they were made but why would hunting not be allowed on Sundays? Alot of residents hunt mostly on weekends and not being able to hunt on Sunday could take away 1/2 of their hunting opportunity. It just doesnt make any sense to me and I had never herd of anything like this before. Does anyone know more about this?

It looks like Pennsylvannia recently began allowing hunting on Sundays except for woodchucks. I might not be reading that right.

Virginia is pretty clearly against hunting on Sundays. As for why, I don't really have a good idea. I saw something on the Pennsylvannia web-site about farmers needing a day of rest. I guess with most of the land and hunting opportunities on private land, the farmers needed a break. I am purely guessing. Religious day of rest could be a big part of it, too. My uncle is in western Maryland and he hunts PA also. I might have to ask him about it.

That would just make it so the farmer had to work on Sunday so he could hunt on Monday. lol. I was wondering if it was religious too or if religious people didnt want church service interrupted by gun fire! The article in Petersens Hunting says they can hunt on private land in Virginia on sunday now.

Just some old laws still on the books because "that's the way we always did it". I bet their elected officials still wear powdered wigs as well. Pretty damned stupid in this day and age. Some folks are just against change of any kind.

I would not live in a state that didn't allow hunting on Sunday. That's just ridiculous and there's absolutely no good reason for it!

the funny part is.... it is a religious thing that makes the laws that way in those states. but instead of going hunting on sundays alot of those guys are either "poaching" or doing some other thing im sure wouldnt be appropriate sunday behavior. id like to hearsomeone chime in from one of these states to give us an iside view.

A lot of the no Sunday stuff goes back a long way. When I was in Texas in 1964/65 in the service, they were called "blue" laws. No liquor on Sunday, most stores closed till at least noon, etc. I think the no hunting was part of this originally. I think there are a few states (and especially counties) that have some of these laws still on the books.

Growing up they were BLUE LAWS.
At least that was the laws for alcohol.

I remember my father having to drive to the next county to get beer.
Our county was dry. Even as late as the early 80s when I departed for the SVC you still could't by alcohol on Sunday (Midnight SAT).
Hunting regs took the same approach, as a kid we couldn't hunt Sunday. Not sure what year that changed it might even by county still today.

I didn't think some of these for Wyoming were that bad. I would not want to skydive drunk. Someone probably died doing it, so now there is a law.

where i live u cant by beer till ten on sundays. 10-10. used to not beable to buy at all on sun. beer locker would have chains and locks on them. so we loaded up on sat as far as religious laws go..... the mountains are my sanctuary

Is that common in Idaho? I never herd that around here but never made a Idaho beer run on sunday morning either. Might have to try it in the morning. LOL. The liqueur store dont open till 11 am which is close enough to a blue law if you ask me!

lol! What happens in the freezer stays in the freezer unless you have to go to the hospital, then there is a law. I think that getting drunk and doing something crazy is the state pastime. Its hard to discriminate when the lawmakers are right in the mix with you.
