Jcharette08 - I've only ever been on the northern end of 36.....i've hunted 37 before and we drew it again this year. I assume you are hunting public land?
Here's a bit of intel i sent a guy about that area....BTW, love that region; that's why we're going back. Froom the looks of it, 36 and 37 are a lot alike. I do know 36 gets LOTS of rifle pressure.
If you are interested in hunting deer or anything with a bow out there, you have to leave your PA bow skills at home and completely revolutionize your tactics. It's all spot and stock and on rare occasions, you can build a blind and ambush. You'll need to be confident with your bow @ a MINIMUM of 60 yards. I have pins at 30-80 yards.
I really liked the bow season (Jan 1 - 15) because the mulies are rutting and you see deer....lots of 'em. 16 just did NOT have the quality of bucks that 37 had. I dont doubt they are there, they are just back in the shit and where no one wants to walk to. Every other buck in 37 was 140+ inches. 2 guys in camp killed. A 140 and a 182. Plus the weather is enjoyable during the bow season. I do not care for the heat. Weather was 50's during day and 20s at night. We saw 2 other bow hunters on our trip into 16.....that was during a 5 day hunt. Little to no pressure.
Bottom line - bring a quad if you have one, and get back in the shit. Check out Google Earth, Find a spot where you can see far, glass, glass, glass. The deer move all day long, you will see deer and a lot of them! They'll be high on the ridges, low in the bottoms, everywhere. If they are rutting, they wont stop moving. find a hot doe and put yourself in the area that she is being chased around. Use a combination of still hunting and spot and stalk. Know there are deer there, and creep on em if you can.
