Nikon EDG VR/Nikon Warranty

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge with the EDG VR scopes? I bought a refurbished Nikon EDG VR scope and I believe they sent me a view through case for the non VR scope. I have been emailing Nikon customer service and I am becoming frustrated. They keep telling me that the 85 EDG angled non VR case is the same as the EDG VR (straight) case. I have tried multiple times to get this view through case on and there is absolutely no way that the case fits over the scope. The battery box is much to large and even if you could get the case over the scope you would have no access to the VR locking knob or the VR power button. The customer support person I have been emailing went as far to tell me that Nikon was sending me a new case only to email a day or two later and tell me that he sent the pictures of my case to the sports optic department and they claim I have already have the correct case and that the issue was solved. I figured its now time to ask the real experts.

My questions are:

Do the VR scopes come with a case or not (I cannot get a clear answer from nikon)? If so, did the case have access ports for the VR knob and button?

Has anyone else ever had a good experience with Nikon warranty/customer service?

Ando, I do some freelance work for Nikon and Im checking to see what I can find out for you. I have used both scope's but couldn't tell you if they use the same see thru case. I'll let you know what I find out.

Jordan, I wouldn't worry about sending your bino's in for service. I'm sure Nikon CS will take care of you. Like I said, I don't work directly for Nikon but I know a few guy's who do should you have any issues.

Thanks bman. I look forward to learning more from someone who has used the scope. When you used the VR scope did it have a view through case?

Ando, the Edg-VR is one heck of a Spotter. One of the times I used it was a very windy day and we were shooting 12 inch steal plates from 500 yards away and it is very easy to see the impacts. Other Spotter's that particular day were more difficult to use just because of the constant shaking from the wind at max magnification. I loaned one to a photographer to use for digiscoping wild horses in SC and he thought it was incredible and wrote a very nice review. The only problem I found with it was it's weight but that definitely helped with stability and the Vibration Reduction worked as designed. All times I have used this Spotter it has not had a cover on it nor do I recall ever seeing one.

As for the Nikon CS, honestly just about all the experiences I hear about are positive. I can understand that something as specialized as what you have may be harder to get answer's about so hopefully I can help you out. We shall see.

Sorry to hear about your problem's. Not to late to get your item's taken care of correctly.
Below is the correct service # to get your item's fixed.
Nikon moved it's service facility 2 years ago so that may have been one of the issues you had.
I hope you will give them another opportunity to make things right?

How to Ship Your Product to Nikon Service:
We recommend using a shipping company, like UPS, that provides a tracking number.
Please secure the product in a shipping box with 2-3 inches of packing material surrounding the product.
We do not need to receive accessories, like batteries or battery chargers or memory cards - unless they help us evaluate the product’s issue. (CD's or DVD's with unedited image samples are helpful if they help illustrate the problem.)
We recommend insuring the product for replacement value.
