I bought a few rocky mountain diaphragms and have a primos hyper lip reed call. Not very good with the diaprham as far as bugles but can squeak out a cow call . Any advice on the easiest bugle that is effective. Looking at primos terminator but kinda big for the pack, would get it you think its worth it. Is it work the space in the back or anyone else have any suggestions. Was thinking of picking up a few reed calls and a decent bugle without buying one of every call made. Thanks for the help, also have unit 19 for elk this year so need some calls that work on big bulls , lol.

I use a cut down power bugle, actually 2 power bugles. One with a little shorter tube and the regular tube. The shorter cut down tube sounds a more like a smaller bull.
I've called in lots of elk with a power bugle, I can't seem to master a diaphragm for bugles. I also carry the bite and blow cow calls.

Hey Craig. I'm in the same boat as you; new to calling. So far I've bought Rocky Mountain and Carlton diaphragms. I'm confident with these things for turkey, but I've quickly discovered (and researched) the manner in which they are used are completely different and what works for one guy may not work for another. Most makers say "Find the one with which you are most confident." AKA buy a bunch.

If you do podcasts, look for Jay Scott Outdoors. http://jayscottoutdoorspodcast.com/ . In episodes 162-165 he interviews Jason Phelps and he walks the listener through step by step how to use (or start to use) diaphragms. I havent ordered from Phelps......yet mostly because of my impatience. They are a small company that does not carry overhead; so they get orders and make them.

I also bought a bite and blow bugle tube from Carlton's. Just doesnt seem to be that "next level" sound that all the big names make. Not in my nature to settle, so I'm trying multiple options.

Lots of great podcasts out there for listeners to help with guys like us: Eastmans' Elevated, Hunt Backcountry, Hunt Talk Radio, Jay Scott......just to name a few.
