New Rules for Carrying a Sidearm While Archery Hunting?

I noticed updated language in the hunt book in the archery regs section, "It is unlawful: For any person to carry any rifle, musket or handgun equipped with a telescopic sight or with a barrel length of 8 inches or more in the field while hunting under archery regulations (i.e., an archery-only hunt)."

In the past it has said "It is unlawful for any person to:
(a) Carry any firearm in the field while hunting under archery regulations." Which is still what I read in the NRS (503.144).

As an archery hunter not being able to carry a sidearm even with a CCW has always been an issue for me. The new wording seems favorable but if the actual law hasn't been updated I am unsure what to think. Maybe I missed something... anyone heard more about this?

oh wow, either way, keep ur side arm with no telescopic sight and short barrel length and sounds like your golden. but being how the other is still in the regs that's a totally oxymoron, you guys should be allowed to carry.

If its in the new regs I dont see how they could cause you any problems over it. I dont think they could stop you from carrying if you have a CCW anyways.

"Handgun Carrying During Archery Seasons
A person who is hunting during any period of an open season during which hunting is restricted to the use of only archery equipment or a muzzle-loading firearm may carry a handgun for self-defense provided the handgun has a barrel length of less than 8 inches and does not have a telescopic sight." - http://www.eregulations.com/nevada/hunting/weapons-regulations/

Sounds like we can carry now to me!

This went into effect last archery season, 2015 season. The way I found out and still have the email was from a game warden I was talking to about one area.

I thought it did too but couldn't exactly remember and didn't look it up. Didn't have an archery tag so it didn't matter for me.

Interesting. This was recently an issue in Oregon, and they were forced to remove all restrictions on carrying firearms during archery seasons. Something about ODFW not having authority to override the Constitution....

Now we have a rule that you "may not hunt" with the firearm, which is open to lots of interpretation and disagreements.

So if you carry a handgun for protection, you are not hunting with it. By the actual wording itself, it would seem as though you would be legal. If a someone was obeying the law by not carrying and was attacked by man or beast, would they have a case against the state for prohibiting their right to defend themselves????? Something I always pondered before Oregon allowed carry during archery season. BB
