New Mexico Unit 18 - Elk

I'm looking to apply in 2019 in New Mexico's unit 18 for elk. This unit has much better odds for drawing a tag for nonresidents and the unit is archery only for elk. Elk numbers are low and the habitat has a lot of desert grassland and juniper. However, there's potential for bulls to get older and bigger due to the unit being archery only. Anyone have any opinions on this unit? Any tips on hunting this type of desert habitat? Other than find water sources.

Extremely low success rate. Limited public land. Non core area. If u have access to private or inside info go for it. If not it could be tuff.
