Because I failed to draw a tag I bought a new mexico elk, land owners voucher. The tag is good unit wide for public ground, but I'm also permitted to hunt on the ranchers property. Does anybody know how to find who/where the ranch is by using the ranch ID# ?

You could probably check with game and fish. Well how did you get the tag...from who? They should know what ranch it's from...what unit?

I got it third hand from somebody who found it on the intenet, not sure who had it first... unit 52. My buddy drew a tag so I plan on hunting with him on public land, just thought it would be nice to have another option if he tags out first.

Mwalczak, i attached a unit 52 map off the g&f website. Looks like 95% of it is either forest or blm land so you should be good. I'm sure if you come in contact with someone at the g&f they could give you more info on how to retain that info. Is your tag either sex or antlerless? Good area, good luck!

Thanks for the info jay. I have an either sex tag. My buddy has been there for 2 days, seeing lots of elk. He says it the most beautiful elk country he's ever hunted, and he's been around the block... I won't be there until the 8th. Counting the days...

that is very good elk country. There are some good animals in there, hopefully you both can tag out! Good luck, and give us an update on how the hunts go.

Is your voucher the type that is purchased for a 5 day hunt of your choice? I hunted in New Mexico about 10 years ago, and used a landowner voucher. I was able to choose any 5 days between early October through January. My job only allowed me to make it out west during Christmas break, so I tried it. Decent hunts both years I went, got a small bull followed by a cow.

I'm thinking of returning to New Mexico for another late hunt in the next 5 years, work still can put limits on when I can hunt elk. It is nice option for a teacher.
