my name is Ed and I live in Albany, Oregon. I've lived in Oregon since I was 14 (1972). Started hunting when I was 15. Shot my first Blacktail that year. I look forward to hunting season each year. Hunted with a guy my age all those years until 4 years ago- Pancreatic Cancer. A real loss. We use to hunt with another friend- same age. He had family genetics that took him at 42- another loss. Both were native Oregonians with fishing and hunting in the blood. I've been hunting and fishing alone since they've gone. I think it would be a waste to stop as I know I have much to pass on from the lessons they taught me- patience being at the top of their lists.
I've spent these last few years really taking every opportunity to take my kids- all grown up now, out with me fishing and hunting as schedules allow. Lots of memories to recount, and new ones to add.
I have been a subscriber and reader of the EHJ and EBJ as well as watching the shows when I have access. I have met some of the Eastman family and crew at the Sportsman's Shows.
I just learned that I have drawn a fairly coveted tag this year. It was a fluke, I have some deer points, but according to the Oregon Tag Guide, not nearly enough to draw the tag. I use the hunt as first choice assuming I would not draw, and end up with a point and my second choice High Cascades Hunt.
Oh, well. I can't not go because Lord know if I'll ever get the chance again- I sure don't want to blow the points either.
I know the chance of running into anyone that has hunted in the Trout Creek Area / Whitehorse Unit is slim, but I'd appreciate any tips on where I might tag up this year.
Thanks, Ed
