Hey y'all ! I followed along with my 14 year old son this fall in Wyoming to his first elk. Fell in love with the country and the game out west . Trying to learn all I can for our first DIY Elk hunt next fall . Any state recommendations or area would be greatly appreciated . Thanks and good hunting .

Welcome to the forum. I'm guessing u don't have any points in any states? General elk tag in montana is a garentee and colorado has a lot of elk and OTC units.
Thanks Retterath ,no points planning OTC just not sure of state or area . Doing lots of research to check area # and chances of seeing elk . Area 113 in Wyoming was a dream but I know that will not happen everywhere . My son passed 3 5x5 first hour of day 1 on the guides advice . Saw a ton of bulls and elk in general . Great hunt . My son was still in treatment for leukemia so we had a little trouble stalking for long distances . Got his first bull last minute of hunt , we arrived at airport with about 1 hour to spare .

Great to hear he got a bull, but very sorry to here he has leukemia, I hope thinks are looking up for u and your family. That would be tough but my prayers will be with u guys. Colorado has a lot of elk but also lots of hunting pressure if not off the trail always, OTC units the bulls aren't huge but guessing most will be 4x4 or 5x5 but it could be a fun hunt also.
