Thanks for the welcome. I'm really enjoying learning what I can about elk and am going through alot of the old posts here. I will try to not be that guy who ask where to hunt in unit x in state y. I'm a big guy and am using an elk hunt as motivation to get into shape. Thats why I used Heavystepper. Maybe I'll be able to change to lightfoot or something like that one day. I'm an environmental engineer for a paper mill for work. Overall, I'm planning to start accumulating points in Wyoming and Colorado while I get broken in for a couple of years doing OTC hunts. At this point a sucessful hunt would be one where I was in the mountains with a rifle in my hands for a week and everybody comes home safe.

Good luck on your path to fitness HeavyStepper. You will reap other rewards from taking care of yourself. You can always out-eat any fitness program, and fat but fit doesn't work too well in the mountains. There's some really old guys on this forum who will amaze you with what they can still do. HS,

Welcome to the forums! I'm not a big guy, but I've been using this same reasoning to get in shape. I've dropped 12 lbs in the last few weeks and am experiencing a much healthier lifestyle than before. Basically I've went Paleo and have been doing HIIT for workouts.

Best of luck on your journey! Go Vols

Welcome Ben. I had an unexpected and serious medical event I was lucky to live through last June. In Dec last year I could not walk 80' without stopping. Now I can now go a mile, with 1/2 up hill, non stop. I live at the top of a large hill... I expect to be to two miles non stop by early July with a 30lb. pack. I have a guaranteed tag for a sheep hunt in WY that opens 8/15, so I have pretty good motivation in addition to just recovering. So count me in on going step by step. Good luck in your efforts!

Scott, I do plan to take a look at the getting in shape forum. It took me a long time to realize I can't outrun my fork! I have gotten pretty serious and have lost 40 lbs so far. Alot more than that to go. Tim McCoy, I hope you have good luck preparing for and on your hunt. Its kind of like an upward spiral right now, the more I do, the more I can do and so on... Doesnt mean its easy though.

Good luck in your efforts as well TnArcher. And War Eagle!

Welcome aboard! I'm about 75 miles south of you. I'm also using my upcoming hunts as motivation to get in shape. I've got a long way to go as well. I'm looking to draw my 1st elk tag this year, hopefully in New Mexico but if not, I had about a 90% chance of drawing in Colorado. Still got my fingers crossed!

Oh and by the way, Roll Tide!
