Nevada Unit 231

Hi All,
So my wife drew her first ever tag, it is in Unit 231 in Nevada. She drew the October rifle tag. We have been out scouting a few times but so far have only ran into Elk and deer on private farms. If anyone knows the unit and can direct us to a generalized area that would be much appreciated. Thanks for the help!

Send me a PM and we will have a private conversation. I can probably help you, but need to know what part of that long rifle season you want to concentrate on, do you mind walking in a couple of miles and back packing one out, etc. My avatar is from my second hunt in that unit.

Are you huntig for elk or deer? There are sime really nice bucks and bulls in that area. I would stay away from Eagle valley, too many
hunters near that.
It's a big area and a lot of it is very thick pinion and juniper. There are some burned areas you should look in. I have hunted that area
3 times and have always seen animals in the burns.

A friend of mine has seen some really nice deer along the creek that flows between eagle valley to echo canyon resevoir. They like to feed in the alfalfa fields.

I drew a 231 rifle tag this year also. Scouted a couple weeks ago. Looked around Eagle Valley area some. The burns, Wilderness up to Ut. border. Only found deer in one area. Still in higher areas. Saw some archery hunters but not many. A big area to scout ! You are right , a lot of thick P&J ! Saw some elk. guzzlers checked were dry. Figured burn areas be better later. didn't see anything in them but small tracks and not many. Hope not as hot and dusty as it was. I banked points for ten yrs. and applied this yr.. drew as first choice. Going to hunt opening week and see what happens and go back last week if have to. About 500 mi. from my house so not so bad.
