Hey all,
I just wanted to post a few things about the Nevada Elk section of the MRS. First off there are not 700 resident tags in many of the units as shown in the year 2014. I will post corrected numbers here now, along with a couple of other corrections here that I need to address.

I will be writing it again next year and the correct information will be reflected there. Hoshour, myself, and Dan will work to catch those mistakes. Please take my apology for not catching that in the process of writing.

Promise it will be correct?

Here are a few questions I have:

1. Is there a reason that the 72, 73, 74 late rifle is ranked higher than the 72, 73, 74 early rifle season?
2. Why does the percentage of public land change during different seasons for some units? Is some public land off-limits during certain seasons? Archery hunting units 62, 64, 66-68 with only 6% public land could be challenging.
3. Is there a reason that archery units 78, 105-107, 109 show season dates of August 25-September 16 when the regulations say September 1-September 20. So I can actually hunt there August 25 if I draw? I noticed that for other units and so I wasn't sure about when the season actually opens.

Hopefully you will look at the official Nevada regulations and not rely on something you read in a magazine.

Why can't we get residents of each state write the MRS for their state? Just saying, it would get a lot more accurate and local information.
Personally I wouldn't want to tell non resident hunters where the best places to hunt, or anyone else for that matter. I think people should do their own research and field work.
Also people have different ideas about what "best" means. To some it could be trophy quality to others it could be numbers of animals or even areas with few hunters and few roads. To others it could mean easy access with lots of roads so they can drive around all day.

^^^^Yep^^^^......If you have inside information on certain areas, that's something to treasure. In today's information age, good hunting areas that're not well known is becoming harder and harder to keep that way.

True, but there's a good chance that part of the reason why he subscribes to EHJ is for the MRS section. If he's paying money for it he deserves to get accurate information.

I really dont get the secrecy for some of these hunts, heck most of the hunts in NV. How does a resident helping a NR affect the residents hunt. If you draw you cant apply again for 5 yrs. If you kill its 10, and thats just to apply. There are only so many tags so one doesnt have to worry about more hunter in a unit. For most people an elk tag in NV is a once in a lifetime hunt. People say do your research. For a NR asking people is part of the research as many live too far to scout and are using their vacation for the hunt.

Now general areas I get it. I wouldnt point someone to my general deer area here in UT. I will tell people general info from what I see though. If I ever drew a LE deer tag for the Pauns or Henrys I sure as heck would help people out the best I could after hunting it. Its their once in a lifetime and I would like them to be successful.
