Nevada Early Bull Tag 061/071 Success

After waiting patiently for 13 years, I finally drew my 1st bull tag. This unit was not my first option and therefore I am not that familiar with it. I am going on a scouting trip next week and was looking for any helpful information since it is such big country up there!

Thanks for any advice!

All I know is its got some good bulls. My friend shot a 402" green gross 6 point out of their with his muzzy. It was a toad

I just saw some great trail cam pics from a buddy with the same tag you have. There are some bruisers hanging around up there, but, like you said it's a huge area. I have never hunted those parts so I'm not much help. Maybe try the search function in the forum to see if there are any old threads on the area. Good luck!

There are some big bulls again coming out of that area. Lots of mass. Good luck

It's a great unit(Been trying to draw it for years), depending on what tag you have will dictate how you hunt. They have a pretty good chunk of elk migrate into that area the later it gets, but the resident herd is also substantial itself. If you know what your doing you'll find elk in this unit group. I recently returned from my hunt and with the help of family and close friends I was successful in harvesting my first Nevada bull. I was able to spot this bull (along with many others) several days before the season and decided if I saw him at some point during the hunt that I wouldn't pass him up. Myself and 2 other guys began hiking around 3:30am opening morning for several hours and got to a glassing spot where we knew the elk had bedded down the night before. As soon as dawn came we spotted the elk and the hunt was on. After crossing several draws and gaining more elevation, we were able to get within 450 yards of the herd. There were 7 bulls in the group, but 2 stood out above the rest. After studying the 2 better bulls I set up and made the shot with a 300 short mag at 8:30am opening day. The hunt went exactly to plan and I feel very fortunate because through the years of hunting, rarely does a hunt go exactly to plan considering the weather, other hunters, etc. I hope I attached the photos correctly to share with everyone

Congratulations, Nevada is a state where it's very hard to get a bull elk tag but if you do you can usually find a great bull like yours.

I got my NV bull in '96 so couldn't apply again till 2007. I'll probably too damn old before I draw another one, took 14 years. 52 now.
