Hey guys,
Just wanted to ask some questions and get some more information.
Has anyone hunted the Monarch Lake area near Granby, CO for elk? Four of us guys (from Kentucky) went on a DIY backpacking archery elk hunt last year and got on some elk but wasn't successful on Sept 12-19, 2015. We are planning on going back this year the first week of bow season (Aug 28-Sept 4). I was wondering if anyone has actually started on the Roaring Fork trail head and up to Watanga Lake and followed the peaks (Watanga Mountain, Hiamovi mountain/tower) down into Hells Canyon? Trying to see if it is actually possible to start at upper lake and head down the water shed towards Stone Lake, Crawford Lake, Long Lake and drop out of Hells Canyon?
Google Earth, NatGeo, and pro trials seem as if you can. Wondering if anyone has never made this hike before? Last year we found a watershed off Mount Irving Hale to Crawford Lake but I'm not sure I would like to do that again. We actually watched a heard of elk for 3 days in Crawford Lake before resorting to that on the last day with a cows playing in the water before a mature cow busted us.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
