Hi All:....Well it finally happened, I drew a Unit 40 Elk Muzzy tag for 9/10 - 9/18/11.

I have killed a few elk with my 50 cal. Knight Wolverine 209, but always using Saboted bullets which have been very accurate out to 200 yds. Since I can't use Sabots in Colorado I'm hoping some of you that have experience with the power belts or some of the newer non-saboted bullets like the Hornady 350 Gr. FPG can give me some starting ideas for an Elk load. ie: Bullet brand & wt., powder brand & grms, and etc.
Thanks, TimG

I am getting ready for a mule deer and elk BP hunt and i bought those new platinum series powerbelts in a 270 grain. I haven't shot them so i'm in the experimenting stage myself but alot of guys seem to like them and some have also told me that they don't hold their weight very well. I think i will try these this year and see what happens. I talked to a guy at the local Sportsmans Warehouse and he was buying the hornady's, but not sure if they were sabots, and he told me that a friend of his that muzzleloader hunts quite a bit swears by the powerbelts. I've shot the one's with the green tips on a muzzleloader i had a few years back and they were very accurate, never killed anything but at the range performed pretty good. Good luck on your hunt!
