Well I knew it would happen eventually. April 8th is our opener here so I hiked in to set a couple trail cams for turkey movement. I got 3/4 way up the ridge and started seeing surveying tape and trees spray painted. As I crested it all made sense. Fire mitigation. Oh well. All the roost trees on a 1/2 mile ridgeline were cut down and areas cleared.
I was bummed at first until I saw movement.....apparently the elk love it already and the grass didn't even start growing yet. I didn't have the heart to bump them so I sat and watched them for a few hours. Didn't see any horns on any of them so I'm assuming all have dropped already.

Sorry to her Slugz.
I am having a similar dilemma here in eastern Ohio with the gas/oil activity running me out of everyone I've been hunting for years. I'm almost out of places to turn to until things normalize in a year or two. (I hope)

Sucks for turkey hunting but sounds like a blessing to me if those crews are outta there by spring giving enough time for grass to be established for elk season.

I know how you feel as the same thing is going on here....But we can't have it both ways. For years we have bitched about the Forest Service not being proactive about managing the resource. Looks like someone finally got the message.
