Well, I managed to fill my whitetail tag tonight. Because of a family vacation, I only had half the season this year, so wasnt as picky as I usually am, but still very happy with this buck. I was watching about 20 does and 3 smaller, maybe 110" bucks taking turns sparring with each other, when this guy stepped out to tune in the little guys a few minutes before legal light. Time was ticking away as he was working his way closer, and when it got to 2 minutes before legal I decided i better take the shot. 358yd shot from my Rocky Mountain Rifles 7mm Rem Mag and it was all over. Kinda interesting, after he dropped, the smaller bucks all circled around him, and one even nudged him with his antlers. Never seen anything like that before. All the does had scattered, but its like the bucks were trying to figure out what happened. Anyway, i thought it was kind of interesting because id never seen anything like that before.
Sorry for the poor field photo and not having a couple angles on him, but its tough getting pics solo in the dark, so once I got one half decent one, I got to work on him. He's very symmetrical though, looks the same on the other side. He's got great G2's, decent 3's and enough mass to be happy with, and his main beams are definitely what they need to be. If he was a 5, would have been a great deer.
Glad to have tagged out on whiteys early, still leaves me some time to try and find a decent elk before we leave to Disneyland, lol. Good luck on whats left of everyone's seasons.
