Muzzy Accuracy?

I am looking into a muzzy. Which caliber is better for accuracy 45 or 50? I think a 45 will have more than enough umph to knock down an elk or mule deer. I will mostly be hunting muleys with it.
what are your experiences?
what would you recomend?

Pepper, here in ID min. cal. for elk is 50. Not for sure, but I believe other states have similar restrictions....... Something to think about before buying a new muzzleloader. I have always shot a traditional style Thompson Center hawken in 50 cal. I have hunted with sabots, lead conicals ,and round balls, depending on the restrictions in the area I'm hunting. I have taken several mule deer, elk, and antelope and was always impressed with the 50 cal. Some prefer modern in-lines and thats fine too. I have run into other hunters in the field that could not belive I would use a traditional muzzleloader when in-lines are legal, again, personal preferance. I you have the chance, shoot both and go with what you feel most comfortable with.

I am planning on hunting Ut, but in the future I want to keep my options open so it looks like 50 is the way to go. Do you sacrifice accuracy if you shoot pellets. Vs loose powder? Pellets seem easier to keep consistant.

We cant use pellets either here in Colorado so I've never used them. I stick with my same setup when I hunt other states whether they allow pellets, scopes, sabots etc. I've heard that loose powder tends to be more accurate. The nice thing about loose powder is you can add 5, 10, 15, and so on grains at a time until you get the best accuracy. I think the pellets only come in 50 grain charges? Someone else might know more about them...

+ 1 A .45 is ok if you can use it for elk, but ammo is much more limited in full bore sizes.

I prefer 50cal is its legal for elk and moose + you can get a lot more Over the counter ammo for it in a great deal of weights.

I shoot this at 100 yards with ours with 100gr Blackhorn209, CCI 209 magnum primers and the 300gr Ballistic Tip Thor conicals.

i have a 50 in a Thompson shooting the pellets and it works well.
