He's a hoarder,

If you get meat from the store then dont criticize me for having the courage to go out and kill my own meat

Is it possible that he is a "cactus buck?" I've heard stories about people catching fawns and if they are a buck, they castrate them. Supposedly, if you do that they will never shed their antlers.

I've never seen this myself, but always thought it would be interesting to know if it was true.

If that was the case he would never shed his velvet. He would grow antlers but never become hard horned. Increases in testosterone is what makes the antlers calcify and the velvet shed.

I'm not really sure what would happen to a buck if he was hard horned then was castrated somehow. Would he keep that set forever or grow one last set?

You're welcome. You'll find some post mature bucks will have some weird things happen to them as their hormones get out-of-whack as well.
