Big boy country in here. Sheep shape is required for all hunting. Even the horses in my opinion wont get you to the animals. Still gonna have to hike up high out of the bottoms.

I went to do an overnighter last weekend in Holy Cross; the trail I was gonna go up is described by USFS as "lightly used" but when I got to the trailhead there were so many people (along with a contingent of little yapper-type mutts) I got disgusted and turned around and came back home. I'll never try that on a weekend again. What a bummer.

Ain't that the truth. It hurt a little.
In 2015 I went back to my old hunting area in the Ansel Adams Wilderness in California that I have hunted for 50+ years. Even living at 6800' and spending all summer working out and walking & hiking, I just couldn't do what I had done in 2010. Being 73 sure showed me that I was never going to be able to keep up with all the youngsters (who were in there 50's) as I had done just a few years earlier.
Getting old sucks! All the punishment to my body playing college and service football has really slowed me down. 4 replacement joints don't help either.

Thanks for the pics. Now after seeing the responses I'm rethinking that country - always wondered what it was like and there have to be some big bucks in that country, - but maybe a bit more of a challenge than I'd thought- I'm bummed if horses or mules wouldn't get me to the animals?

The last time that I was on top of that peak was 10 years ago and I doubt that I'll ever go back along with a lot of the other 14'ers out there. But the country that surrounds it on both the east and west is just breathtaking to say the least.

Anymore any of these hikes are going to be crowded no matter what time you go. I just wished that there was a ban on taking dogs up the trails. I have been bothered by them a lot more than I have by people, even the folks that needed help getting off the mountain when they figure out that it wasn't a hike that someone from Florida should of tried.
