Howdy all,
I've recently relocated to Billings from northern Michigan, and I'm beginning to do research on locations to hunt next fall (didn't want to fork over the $$$ for non-resident tags without some knowledge), and will be focusing on public land hunts in the SE part of the state (starting out). I've noticed in my atlas the abundance of public land available, but just wondered if anyone had some answers to a couple questions I had: First, what is the difference, between BLM Land and type 1 & 2 Block Management Land? Also, are some national forest areas closed to hunting or are they all open to public hunting? My first year I'll probably go for the general deer tags and later with experience start looking for places to draw for elk. I've been looking at a lot of maps around the Custer NF between Ashland and Broadus and also the BLM/state land east of there, just wondered if anybody has tried that area out and what to expect? Not looking for coordinates/roads, just some helpful advice. Thanks in advance, good luck and safe hunting.
