Hey everyone, I am a non-resident looking to travel from Kentucky to bow hunt the milk river. I like the DIY experience and would like to camp and hunt the BMA's around the Milk River.

Does anyone have any suggestions they would like to share? Or point me in the direction of a few BMA's around the Milk River that have produced good deer? I know no one wants to give up their honey hole but this will be a one time trip for me most likely and would love to take the best advantage of the limited time I will have.

Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How much homework have you done? Download or request a copy of this years BMA's. You can camp on BLM ground usually. There is Nelson Reservoir with camping between Saco and Malta. My suggestion, bring a fishing pole, something to do in the afternoon or when you become dishearted by deer hunting. I live just above the Milk, there are some dandy bucks, most our on restricted private ground. You may get lucky early in the year, pressure is pretty light for archery deer, most folks go after elk in bow season. I would not overlook hunting away from the river myself.

Thanks for the info. This is all preliminary homework. Just getting into the beginning of planning this hunt. I know BMA’s can change year to year. This hunt will probably take place between the next 2-4 years. Right now I’m trying to familiarize myself with the process and start with a broad range of areas. As i gather more information i will try to narrow it down to specific districts and BMA’s.

Thanks again, any other information you’d like to share would be great. I’m a boots on the ground do my scouting and homework type of bowhunter. So i don’t mind to put the work in.
