Here in SW Colorado our Monsoons have started. The last 4 days have had thunderstorms in the afternoons. Been pretty hot too, in the low 90's. We have had some isolated lightning strike fires too. One west of Durango (Leightner Creek area) was big enough to need a lot of manpower.

I am going to scout my elk unit sometime in the next few weeks. Hope it cools down some.

I am soon going to get serious on the scouting end for my ML deer hunt this fall. I figure now is the time to start watching those big bucks and get them patterned even if one of the areas that I plan on hunting still has 5' of snow across the road..

Not much snow left in the La Platas or the San Juans, been too hot (mid 90's) for almost a month now.

It has been a little cooler here temp wise (than normal)but the humidity has been awful. We have had ten inches of rain so far in July. Headed out to sw Colorado with the fam in couple weeks. Hope to do a little scouting for elk/bear while there. Really looking forward to leaving the humidity behind.

From my home I can look to the south and still see snow up on the top of the hill where the road runs at a little over 10,000'. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and there was still a lot of snow on the road.

A number of years ago some friends of mine and I went for a ride on our 4 wheelers in this area and the FAA was having a bulldozer cutting a path on the road to a radar sight. There was 12' of snow still in places on the 24th of July.

Just a little current information. Tomorrow is the 1st of Aug...getting close to archery season and it really has been raining! For the last 2+ weeks we have been getting rain every afternoon. We got .45 yesterday and .5 today. We had our annual Shrine Club steak bbq Saturday and one of our members has a ranch between Groundhog Res and Lone Cone Peak. He said there has been over .5" every afternoon for 3 weeks. It looks like spring, lots of wildflowers and grass waist high.

Don't forget your rain gear, especially here in SW Colo.

Rained again last night (Fri, Aug 4). I am gathering up some stuff for 3 days of scouting (tue, wed, thur) next week for my 4th season either sex tag. I know the conditions will be a lot different in late Nov, but am hunting a unit I have never hunted before and want to get some facetime there. Close to my homeplace (just a little over 100 miles away) so I'll get several more trips before time to hunt.

That's our "feels like" temp at 5am. But it's been steady rain all Summer. Pretty anxious to see how things turn out, got cams back out last Sunday.

I have to start investigating my muzzle loader area. There are rumors that this buck made it through the winter and he is something aw-sum this year.

I am going to check out the area tomorrow morning.

I have my fingers crossed that he is where I think he is.

San Luis Valley Units 76, 79, 80, 81. Heavy rains the last 30 days. Grass is waist high all over the area. Elk sign is poor so far but they are scattered all over the area due to so much food.

Been getting afternoon rains last 2-3 days where I am in NNW part of Colorado. Getting geared up to go scout again with my uncle for his muzzleloader deer hunt. AT JIMP- that is one hell of a deer! Hope you cross paths with that guy! Good luck!!
