Hard to believe its been 10 years. May God be with you my brothers!!!

"This year marks ten years since the 1st Battalion 184th Infantry Regiment (Air Assault) conducted a year of offensive operations against anti-coalition forces on the Karadah Peninsula in the south of Baghdad Iraq. This battalion suffered the most casualties of a California National Guard unit since the Korean War. This weekend we pause to honor those who fell on the battlefield, giving their last full measure of devotion."

I honor all our veterans, especially those lost in fighting to protect the freedoms we enjoy today. I am a 40% disabled veteran and have many friends who also served. Memorial Day and Veterans Day are special times to thank everyone who served.

THANK YOU

Musket man & all Americans,Executive Mansion, Washington, November 21, 1864.

Mrs. Bixby, Boston, Massachusetts:
DEAR MADAM: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
Yours very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Executive Mansion, Washington, November 21, 1864.

I know most have visited Arlington, but I thought it fitting for Memorial Day weekend to post a couple photos from my last visit the other week. We don't want all of the festivities to cause us to forget!

Musket man , Arlington & Normandy are very high on my list! It sounds like my son chewed some of the same ground as you. His FOB was Falcon south of Baghdad. His tour was 06-07 14 months. He list 5 of 17 in his platoon. Very tough times. He's just getting back into hunting.

Yea, if you go to DC, plan on spending at least a half day at Arlington . The changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier along is something awesome to see!

just by looking at pics of those sacred grounds causes a chill to spread throughout your body. my fathers is a Vietnam vet and never talked about it, not once. when I was a teenager my sister gave him a Arlington national cemetery plaque. that was the first time I ever seen him tear up.

I would venture that whether you were in the military or not that you or someone close to you knows someone who gave their life for this crazy experiment in government. Remember to take the time Monday to raise a glass of whatever you got for those men and women and their families and friends.

Yes there is nothing like visiting the Tomb of the Unknowns. The changing of the guard is a special privilege to watch. Two years ago I had the distinct honor along with 3 fellow vet's to be a part of a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb. I will never forget it.
I will always remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can be free.

Thank you for those fallen warriors that fought and died for our country. Remembering the many people that gave their life fighting for our freedoms. My prayers go out for their friends and family for their loss. Thank you also for those who currently serve or have served in our countries armed service.
