Hey guys quick question I'm planning a solo trip for rifle elk in unit 25. Never hunted Idaho before what can I expect as far as severe weather that time of year. I have good gear & 4x4 truck. I've been scouring google earth for areas to camp away from major roads & crowds. I don't want to get back in on a jeep trail & not be able to get out do to snow
or heavy rain & mud. Since I am going to be solo I want to make sure I can be safe first & foremost. I have been
looking at areas south of Yellow Pine off Johnson creek road & southeast of Yellow Pine off road 674. Any advice would be appreciated. If anyone needs any info on units in Arizona I can help out on certain units. Thanks in advance.

I am in a similar boat this year. Coming from PA to hunt the first week of October. Have you considered flying in at all? McCall aviation has a pretty good deal to get you in to some pretty remote areas by bush plane. If you want to pm me on some of the planning I've done let me know, or if you're open to hunting more north (big creek, cold meadows, chamberlain) I can always give you more info after our hunt. I am not stingy with spots.

Tough to say. We got snowed on hard on September 15th one year in that area. It didn't last too long.

16 inches one year in the Lemhis on October 2nd, that one stuckawhile, and I imagine that area would have been hit too, even though it is a bit further west. Just about didn't make it out of Whitehawk basin another year in late October, back when there used to be elk in Bear Valley.

Most years you will be good, but I would have tire chains, jacks, shovels, etc.
