I feel for this guy. But today's talk radio chatter concerns this guy taking time to record and post a video on facebook about the attack before getting away and getting himself medical attention. I feel bad for the guy and glad he survived, However this is the type of crap that gets you killed (literally). I would have gotten the heck out of there and went for medical attention ASAP. You don't know what could be wrong internally that you can't see or maybe even feel until its too late. Too many people are obsessed with recording and posting every aspect of their lives that it sometimes causes more issues than it solves.
I like to record my hunts, but if I'm in a life and death situation, I taking care of myself and family, not post to social media.
That said, I'm glad he survived and I hope I'm never in his situation.

I'm glad he took video and posted it. Stories in the Media are often overblown or misrepresented. This is a true to life, actual video from a man who survived a Griz attack, and lived to video it. I showed the video to my wife and kids, and it helped them understand the importance of being prepared, respecting wildlife, and dealing with emergencies.

He's bloody, cut, bruised, clearly in shock, but coherent and able to get himself to hospital. Tough SOB.

Cleary a tough guy, but lacking in other regards. I think the video could have waited until he was at the hospital and posted once he was deemed medically clear. Not immediately after the event standing near the site. He was in pretty bad shape and should have gotten medical first and foremost. Not a smart decision on the timing in my humble opinion. Clearly gets a buzz off social media like most young folk these days. I'm sure glad he survived though for the sake of his family.

I personally feel that by him posting the video makes it more real to us. A few weeks ago a guy was attacked calling in an elk south of Jackson. I believe by him doing this makes a lot more people be more bear aware as well as know what a Grizz is really capable of doing.

Easy to guess what we would have done but hard to say exactly how anyone will respond in this kind of scary situation. I would think after the first attack I would have gone for the gun on the second one but who knows how clearly anyone would be thinking after getting mauled like that.

I'm in the shoot first crowd. Nothing deters like dead imo.
These were exactly my thoughts as I started reading this post. Woulda coulda shoulda, nobody knows what they would do until they are exposed to it. I will say that a concealed carry of 14 rounds in my 45 is heavy but I would be packing it!

10mm pistol folks!! draw spray and pistol (pistol first) use both if necessary
There really is no reason to kill a sow with cubs. The spray does work and has been proven to work. A handgun or rifle is final, while it might work the bear also might get pissed enough at you that even the spray won't work and it would be like putting Tobasco Sauce on a hard boiled egg when the bear gets to you.

He took the video once he was at the trailhead at his truck if you read his story. .and I think it's a damn good thing he did. Everything was fresh in his memory cause he was still in some sort of shock. .he knew his wounds weren't life threatening. The moment he gets to the hospital they are gonna pump him up with drugs, and who knows when his exact thoughts of the event would return. There is no doubt he will be questioned by game and fish and others. .Well now he has a fresh detailed account, that isn't clouded by hospital drugs and days gone past. I would like to think I'd have done the same thing in his shoes. He's not trying to be social media famous, he's trying to show what can happen to someone who was very much aware of being in grizzly country and anything can happen to anyone

until there is a season for these bears, until they have a reason to be scared of us as humans I have no problem what so ever dropping a big sow regardless if she has cubs or not. (if shes in attack mode) I see what you are saying but to be honest, I don't know if I realy buy in to all of these studies done on bear spray and all the hype that it is. I doubt there is very many guides out there that are in grizz country that rely solely on bear spray. if ones close enough to me itll get sprayed, maybe... but in the heat of the moment I know ill be reaching for my side arm and not a can of spray.

I agree, if it's between me being attacked or dropping a sow I will defend myself. With that said I will use spray and have my sidearm as a last resort. Normally I have it to where I can draw the spray with my left and a pistol with my right. I'm just happy this dude made it out to tell his story.

I certainly agree on this. In the argument of sidearm versus spray I feel like none are as good of a deterrent as fear. Until the grizzly fears the human, much as we fear them, encounters could continue to show up more frequently as they have over the last few years. Humans carry spray or sidearms as an insurance policy, I think a bear would resort to running away if they felt the same level of danger.

I agree lot to be said. I am glad he made it out and is going to live for him and his love ones. Myself I wouldn't use spray just a heavy dose of lead from a 44 magnum. Never been attacked and hope I never will but like to think I could get a few fatal shoots off before she got to me at least I would like to try if she was bearing down on me.

I would bet he has said this comment in the past. Until we are in his shoes we don't know what we would do or what we could do
