I know it's a long shot but figured I'd ask anyway... I'm looking for a hunting partner for a 4th season buck hunt in unit 38. My wife isn't to keen on me going alone and it would be nice to have another body in camp. Don't suppose anyone else picked up one of these tags? Thanks...

Well you could join me in 70 for 4th season!! Just joking...I know what you are having to deal with. My wife doesn't like it much that I am hunting alone for M/L elk & 4th season deer.

Good Luck, 4th season deer tags are really a great hunt, no matter what unit you drew.

My wifes used to me tromping around the mountains by myself but it's usually local and I'm home every night. She hasn't said anything about it but I know she'd be more comfortable if someone was with me. Even if they are just in camp.

I've been having to do a lot of hunting by myself since my childhood buddy and hunting partner for 10+ years decided a couple years ago he had better things to do than hunt. It's really starting to be a pain planning hunts by yourself and less enjoyable unfortunately. You would think that living in the mountain west hunting partners would come pretty easy, but for me they don't. Have to find a hunting partner sooner or later... What really makes me nervous having a lot of points in other states is drawing a awesome tag in another state and having to go it alone. That just doesn't seem like near as much fun.

Get yourself a Delorme In Reach so you can communicate with her to keep her at ease.

Also when your thinking of drawing another state you most likely can find someone here to share a camp with.

Thanks, that's a good idea. Actually though I should have cell service to some extent where I'll be hunting and can shoot off a text every day. I always thought finding someone to share a camp with on a once in a lifetime tag would be easy but most guys are all talk until it comes down to it. I put out an invite when I drew a sheep tag and got know bites that went anywhere...

I wish I had the vacation time as I'd go along for just the fun of it. Done that with a few friends that drew tags, had as much fun "guiding" as I did pulling the trigger! There has to be someone that would like to tag along. I like hunting on my own, but it's great to sit back at the end of the day and BS with someone.

I'm often in the same situation. As I got older, my hunting friends just started to drop off....either from dying or letting themselves get old. I find myself recruiting a new batch of younger guys every year. My most enjoyable hunt ever was a solo Mzl. deer hunt in CO last year, at least until it was time to pack the deer out. If I didn't have two WY hunts on the docket, I'd seriously consider going along. Ditto on the Delorme option. I have a SPOT, but would go with the Delorme when it's time to upgrade. The phone may usually work, but the Delorme will always work. Good luck CoHiCountry, you too CC

CoHicntry,
I would still like to go with ya but not sure if I can make the dates work. My problem is obviously distance, but also I'm not sure I'm geared up for that time of year. I still have to come to CO for work. Supposed to come this month. October I'm heading to MT to fish. If I can make my trip to Denver around that week I will definitely come out for a few days to help. I will let ya know if it lines up but I know it would be nice to know for sure. Sorry I didn't just go ahead and line it up. We will get it together. You know I'm in the same boat as we discussed. For sure next year we will try again at least in New Mexico but also I'm still sitting on 10 pts for mule deer in CO. Wish we were more lined up on our points. Give me a call or text later if you want to discuss options.

Hey Matt,

No problem... that's a long ways to come for what might not be a very good hunt! Having leftovers for the 4th season doesn't make it seem like it will be that great? Otherwise there wouldn't be leftovers! I don't blame you, I wouldn't travel that far either. Save your travels for good hunts! LOL! Hopefully NM archery next year

You'll probably go in there and shoot a 190" deer. Then I'll be kicking myself. Lol.
You've got some good tag along hunts coming up rapidly. Keep me posted on how y'all do. Good Luck. Talk to ya soon.

When you don't draw any good tags yourself, the "tag along hunts" are nice. Actually rather enjoy them. Usually good hunts without any pressure... Leaving Friday for my first tag along CO muzzleloader. I'll text you a pic if he gets one down. I'm afraid he might be to picky since he got a really nice one last year. Only gonna hunt a few day's though because we're heading to Utah right afterwards for another muzzleloader bull hunt. I'll keep you posted!
