Some of you might remember my getting a new Ruger #1 in .300 Wby last year. I finally got my scope back from Leupold (VXlll 4x14) and decided to work on a new load. Went to the range this morning and tested some new stuff I just loaded. I load RL 25 powder, Federal Mag primers and 180 gr Nosler Partition bullets. My old load was 86.4 grs. I I pick a starting point near the middle of the chart and load 3 rounds each and go up 1/2 gr of powder for each load. I started at 83 grains, next was 83.5 and so on until I got to 87.5. That gives me 10 different loads to group.
I started with number 1 at 83, #2 @ 83.5, #3@ 84, and #[email protected]. I quit when #4 gave me a 100 yard group less than 1/2". Lower left group of 3 will be it for my elk load.
