I just got back from helping my bro on his cow elk hunt in one of the "limited opportunity' areas. There are very few elk but we always mange to find some. This was the first time out of 5 tags that we didn't shoot anything, the others were "any elk" tags. We did have a chance at some cows but we were concerned about not being able to get all the meat out without spoilage due to the very warm temps, a very rugged canyon and the distance of the pack out.
We saw more bulls than cows this year and we saw some very big bulls. That will be good news for those with bull tags.
The area used to be very easy to draw but has gotten harder since people have realized there are some very good bulls there even though there are very few elk overall.
