Just as a FYI my .25-06 is sighted in at 250 yards which makes it around 16" low at 400 yards. The coues buck in my avatar was shot with that load and scope and all I did was to place the cross hairs just slightly over his back.

I also have a ballistic dope chart taped to the stock with clear packing tape to where the weather won't bother it. A quick check with a range finder and a quick look at the chart and I am ready to shoot. I was fortunate to have a friend with me that ranged the buck while I was getting set up for the shot so that was one thing that I didn't need to do. I had already guess the range to be around 400-450 and the range finder said 420 yards, so I was close enough with my estimate that I was going to bag him one way or another.

And I do have a VXIIIi with the CDS dial on that scope but I never took it off of my 250 yard zero.
