Leica Rangefinder Q's

I bought a new Leica 1000-R a few months back. I just recently had a chance to use it setting up targets for shooting. The rangefinder has the angle compensation but my question is... I assumed it would do the calculation for me and spit out the yardage taking into consideration the angle? There's another button you can push to get the angle degree so I'm starting to think that's all it does? Just gives you the angle degree and you have to figure it out? I didn't buy it for this function so it's not a big deal, I'm just trying to figure out if I'm right on this? The manual and website hasn't answered the question so figured I'd ask here for those of you that have one. Thanks...

I have the Leica 1600 (non B). In addition to distance, mine will give temp, angle, and barometric pressure. I figure the rest if I am at high elevation or shooting at an angle. I have no experience with the model you have.

There are only two modes for the 1000r, straight line and angle comp. I don't have the unit but it will give you compensated distance. You don't have to figure anything out. EHr is the angle comp mode. It works from 10 to 600 yards.

OK, so as long as I have it in EHr mode than the number it spits out is already taking the angle into consideration? That's kind of what I assumed but wasn't sure. I thought it might show the actual yardage and the angle compensated yardage at the same time in the display.

I thought it displayed both also but reading the manual it doesn't appear to do that, but not actually spelled out in the manual. You could check by going outside and ranging a tree trunk, then the top of that same tree. The 1000r uses cosine for the angle comp so that ehr will be essentially the same as the straight line distance. You'll have to range the upper trunk and not limbs though.

If you wanted you could range a hill side with a steep angle in both modes an see if there diff I have the 1600 b an i dont use the ehr mode I was told by Leica that my cal would shoot to flat for the ballistics program to work call them up they were very helpful
