Leftover tags list that go on sale Tuesday, it states over the phone or in person starting 9:00 am, online at midnight August 3rd. Is it safe to say there will be a significant amount of hunters with their phone dialed and ready to connect at 8:59:59 am?
The areas I am able to hunt deer show 4 tags unit 521 for my preferred unit, and 40 for my 2nd choice units 41-42-421. Is it safe to assume these will be gone within seconds?

These numbers are for the 2nd rifle season

Do I need anything to buy over the phone besides CID and credit card?

I don't see anywhere where it states if this sale is resident only? Or this this sale first come first served including non residents?

thank you

While I haven't been into the left over pool for a while I would say for you not to linger around when they do go on sale.
If you call in you may just go into limbo land or have to wait a significant amount of time.

It is a first come first sold.

Your CID and CC and the hunt cods should be all you need to purchase them on line, over the phone or in person.

I was told by the folks at CPW office here in Grand Junction that there will be people camping out overnight Monday to try and be first in line Tues AM

Good luck to all of you and let the games begin! Hope it goes smooth for all of you not like the mess a few years ago when the system crashed.

Thank you everyone, all I can say is wow. I had 2 desk phones and my cell phone dialing non stop for 70 minutes, never connected one time. I was constantly refreshing the CPW leftover list, and it was amazing to see the list dwindle and dwindle. Mule Deer, the most sought after trophy in the west is perfectly said, and maybe under stated!!

I see there are MANY tags CURRENTLY left for units 018,027,037 and 371, thinking about trying to secure one of these and find a place to hunt AFTER securing a tag.

A lot of times there is a reason that there are a lot of tags left over for a specific unit. Private land, access problems, or just no animals during the season that the tags are valid for.

So pick carefully. It wouldn't be a bad idea to call a hunt planner and see what they have to say about the unit that you might be looking at.

I called repeatedly starting at 9:00am too. Updated the online leftover list as I was calling. The 4 mule deer tags I was interested in sold out in 5 minutes... what a bummer! I should have known better than to think I might actually get one. I'd like to know who scored those unit 61 tags? I'm sure it was someone with access to a machine who put in their info then hit send right at the stroke of 9:00. I bet they are all grins today, getting a unit 61 tag and not using ANY pref. points!

I'd be careful of this as you may wind up with tag soup without burning the boot leather. I guess you'll save on boots. :)

Yes, I guess being at a wal mart or other retailer is the way to go for folks in state, we'll give it whirl next year

I need to befriend someone at CPW.....

I've still been trying, never got through once, literally close to 1300 redials on the 3 phones, I am stubborn and foolish

Was reading stories of this on another message board where people where waiting in line (some overnight) and when the doors opened they ended up being #2 in line as a worker or friend was allowed to go first...............

You always hear stories like this without any proof. I am not saying it doesn't happen but it is always a friend of a friends cousin told their uncle about it.

It is coming down to the fact that if you want to hunt you need to put in for the units or ask for the left over list on your applications or you might not get a tag. I am seeing this happen in quite a few states now, where a few years ago you could always pick up a left over after all the draws but it doesn't work that way anymore.

I just noticed they now have bear tags available and running concurrent with the rifle seasons. Not sure what I would do with a bear though. How do they taste?

I was able to adjust my work schedule and get in the line at Grand Junction CPW. I got there around 6:45 and was given the number 38. They opened the doors right at 9:00 and I didn't get to the counter 'til about 9:50. I had 8 different hunt codes marked in an effort to get a muley tag in my favorite units, but they were all gone, so I ended up without a tag. The system seemed to be working OK when I was there but I heard the CPW employees had a betting poll as to when it would crash.

Well, I picked up a unit 76 archery elk tag and a unit 66 second season buck tag. It was a good morning.

Im excited for sure. Have a pretty good plan in place for 76, not so much 66 at this point, but have a couple months still to figure it out.
