Bummer CC, how was camp with the new trailer?
New trailer is really great. There are a couple of things I need to do and I found out the 3k btu cat heater is not nearly big enough. 30 in the am and inside the trailer was 45 running the heater all night. Ok now, but for late November hunts, I'll freeze my buns off getting up in the am. I need something I can put a thermostat on.

Bummer, hate scout-hunting an area. Having the same problem over here. Except I have found sign of one bull kinda holed up. Everything else just passes through. Going somewhere else next weekend. Good luck with the heater.

For what it's worth I would suggest getting a 30,000 BTU Rv heater with fan that way when you turn it on it will heat up faster. My trailer is only 14 ft and I use a 16,000 BTU but takes a why'll to warm up. Biggest problem is Rv heaters will drain a 12 volt deep cycle bat quite fast so you prolly need a generator to charge it every day. Good luck John

ive got a 16 ft toyhauler that I use and ive found that the "big buddy" portable works great for me,,I have my windows cracked a few inches and run it all nite,as I cant stand the regular heater with the irritating blower fan,I just hook it to a 5 gal tank ,with adapter hose, instead of the coleman bottles and don't need 12 v.

I was back in 70 on Thursday, but in the western edge of the unit. Didn't see any elk, but this is the area I'll be hunting deer in come mid November. Lots of great deer country and found a couple of great camp spots. I'll do another trip or 2 before 4th season opens.

Came home today, it was the pits! This was my first time hunting a new unit and it was really bad. I went up Thursday after scouting a lot this summer. Quite a few archery hunters there and no one had anything. On Friday the local hunters started pouring in and it was really a mob scene. I totally changed my game plane and opening am I hunted an area right at timberline(about 10,000"). I got there an hour before daylight and waited to see if I could hear any bugling. Nothing....just silence. Hunted all day, walking quite a few miles. Saw no fresh sign and nothing. Saw several wallows that looked like it had been several weeks since anything was there. It was also very hot, 80"s in the daytime & 30 at night.

Several hunters I talked to were locals and they said it had been this way for a couple of years. Was checked by a Warden and he said he had not checked an animal all day.

I have a fallback plan and will check it out Tuesday am. That's what happens when you hunt a totally new area, you just don't know, even with lots of scouting.
This has happen to me for sure and I bet a lot of us. I always try to have a plan B,C, and D. It's tough when a guy puts in so much time in a area scouting not knowing what's going to happen on the opener, it can really be a blow to the heart when all the hunters show up.

You'll get it done. Keep positive and know patience will pay off.

CC , I hunted that unit last year for the third season out of Montrose up the divide rd. we camped up on top not far from that area the that a camp ground. We didn't see anything either other than the locals that took a few cow moose on the road heading towards Delta? If mt memory severs me correctly. Good luck on your next hunts in the area!

The deer area is in the far western edge near the Utah border, lots of deer and only 40 tags for the whole unit in 4th season.

How did your BC hunt go? My Dad hunt Toad River for moose & elk around 50 years ago. Did well back then.
