I like Bugling Bull Game Calls. These were the easiest reed calls to use to me. Give these guys a call.
these are must haves!!!! the best! the easiest fool proof call out there though for beginners is hands down hunter specialties mack daddy call. seriously though, fool proof.

Diaphragms vary in ease. Like mentioned, single reeds are the easiest. Don't think you can't bugle with single reeds. You might not be the loudest, but it works.

I will tell you what I like. Bugling Bulls Mellow Yellow, All Star. Primos Ivory Palate Plate. I have some other multi reed calls, but I find I like these the best. I like them because I can cow call and slide the tube up to my mouth and bugle in a continuous sequence. (If I am trying to emulate a cow getting pestered by a bull). I use those reeds for locator bugles also. And since I bowhunt, a reed in the mouth to stop an animal is an advantage.

A thing I've learned from the guy that loved hunting midday on a full moon is he bugled like the baddest bull on the block. I always bugled meek not wanting the bull to run the cows off. He didn't use a reed, just his mouth and a 2" tube that was about 36" long. The only time I hunted with him, he called in the herd bull down a hill. He wouldn't cross the creek but we eventually got him up on top of the hill.

I think bugling isn't communication between Bulls but from bull to cow. If the cows think you're the baddest, he'll have to come challenge.

I've learned the most about calling from Corey Jacobson. Saw his seminar twice this year in Denver and in SLC which was something like Improve Your Calling, Improve Your Success. I think the best overall DVD I've seen (and I have probably 10 or more) is Corey's University of Elk Hunting. It is 2 DVD's and I think it was $20. There is a segment on calling in it as well as 9 other sections all with great information and probably the most thorough teaching tool I know of. As for calls, when you say "reeds" I assume you are referring to diaphram calls? For me, most different types work but I have found 1 that I just cannot make work. Bugling Bulls (Rocky Jacobson) has several different diaphrams which I have tried several. I do think you need to buy a few different diaphrams as some may just fit your mouth better than others. I think that if you can master a diaphram, it is more versatile than other fixed reed bugles since you can just do more things with a diaphram but it does take lots of practice to become proficient!
