What do you guys use for insulation? My last free lance piece was one covering puffy jackets and I want to know what you guys use.

UA and insulated bibs and coat. The bibs and coat are Cabela's brand "Cabela's MT050® Whitetail Extreme™ GORE-TEX®." This is mine because of deer hunting whitetails in Minnesota. Stand hunting with these only because walking far and I get extremely warm very fast.

In my opinion there is nothing warmer than carhart or polar king for the money. I do have some cabelas berber fleece, but it doesn't compare to the carharts.

I'm curious as to what everyone likes better, Down or Primaloft? I'm in the market for a insulating layer for backpacking and trying to decide between the two.

ScottR, where can we read your piece in puffy coats?

I've always used fleece and a shell as needed but noticed recently everyone's wearing puffy coats so I just ordered a Sitka Kelvin Lite with PrimaLoft.

I will let you know when it is published. It is being edited now.

You will like the Kelvin Lite, my buddy who has one really likes it. I really like Sitka's Kelvin Down Hoody for the cold weather. PrimaLoft is great insulation and does really well in a lot of the early seasons, and with high activity in late seasons.

PUFFY!!!!!!!!! Backcountry.com - pick up a Stoic Hadron (last year's clearance colors) for around $55-$60. Might be a wacky color, but again - WHO CARES! They are ultra-lightweight. My small is just over 6 ounces. Between backcountry hunts out West and treestand whitetail hunting back East, I've used mine in excess of 100 days in 2 years and it is in great shape still.

Anyone use the puffy jacket from Kuiu? Considering buying one, but looking for some feedback before I buy.
Quality piece! Brandon likes his, he has it in solid black. I wore one for a review and it performed well. Buy one size bigger as the fit is a little small.

I've got a Patagonia nano puff 3/4 zip. I love it, weighs next to nothing, and packs down tiny.. Yet, it is super warm

Hard to beat down. The Kuiu super down is a nice coat. I tried one on in the store.
I have a Montebell I bought on sale a few years ago from Backcountry.com. It is always in my pack. I think it weighs about 7 or 8 ounces.

I prefer Primaloft just because you don't have to worry about it if it gets wet.

Check Sierra Trading Post or the REI clearance section, I picked up a really nice Marmot jacket at REI for like half the regular price.

Scott is right.
Winter when hunting pigs in the rain I always have my primaloft coat under my rain gear. It keeps it's warmth even when wet. Anytime I am expecting rain I always pack it. Down works best in dry weather or snow.
