I am from middle TN, West of Nashville. Grew up on a small Angus cattle farm and was taught to hunt and fish by my grandfather. Went to school at UT Knoxville, yes the Vols sucked at that time too, and moved back home a few years ago.

My wife and I just had our first child, little girl, and I look forward to raising her in the outdoors.

I got into Western hunting after my wife and I took a trip to Yellowstone while she was interning on the Shoshone Indian Res. I have since hunted WY for 4 years, SD turkeys and I am about to add KS and NE to my turkey hunting list. I have also started hunting public land almost exclusively here in TN, its just more of a challenge and makes it more of a hunt. I am also lucky to get to add MT to my deer hunting list this coming fall, it took some hard work but I have gotten a commitment from my granddad to go with me to MT...this might be my most memorable Western trip yet. He hasnt been out west since the early 80's when he got snowed in in CO while attempting a elk hunt. He also has a few WY antelope points, so I am hoping he will draw a unit near Cody in 2015 so we can take a trip to Yellowstone after the hunt.

Working on getting my wife to move to WY, I am in love with the state and I have never met a person there I couldnt get along with. Plus the fact that very few people live there and I am becoming more of a introvert the older I get or introverted when it comes to people who do not share my same passions.

Whitetail hunting here is loosing its appeal for me, when Im on the deer stand all I can think of is my next Western adventure.

Also forgot to mention my screen name, AT is for Appalachian Trail. I am a section hiker, working on hiking from Georgia to Maine. So far I have Georgia to the TN/VA line completed. But between my hunting passion and now the new baby it is likely going to take me longer to get to Maine!!!

I enjoy getting the history on everyone! My wife and I take a youth group from our church to Knoxville every year. I bear hunt in Marion, NC. that AT trail is brutal! That's some serious hiking but always a blast!

Nice to meet you AT Hiker, I have been on the trail a number of times in the Smokies and hope to thru hike at some point. Section hiking may be the only way for me due to time constraints. You are obviously a young man with many years ahead of you, and I wish you the best in your hunting, but especially in your family life. Hunting is important to us all, but God is first and family is second.

I went to Mississippi State, so all I can say is SEC, SEC. I'm a turkey man too, and hope to take my 100th Eastern gobbler this year.
Good luck in the West. I am interested in hunting NE and SE for Merriams and look forward to hearing about your trip.

Thanks for the intro. I too love Wyoming can't get my wife to move up there. She loves the Chickasaw Nation too much! Of course our kids would not want to move at this point in life anyway. But I do visit Wyoming quite often! Sounds like you got a good game plan. Good Luck!

Welcome to EF. Take care of that little girl. My daughter (5) has really turned into my little hunting and fishing partner. Grandpa's too! She was with both of us on separate trips when we took gobblers last year.

Welcome aboard. Wyoming was on my list as a place to retire. Lived in Southern California (my alma mater too! Fight ON!). My wife liked sw Colorado and we moved here 14 years ago. Still love Wyoming, especially Lander. Look forward to hearing more about your hunting adventures.

Eberle, I know what you mean, bro. I can do my job most anywhere but my kids and grandkids are in NC so we're not moving. And you're right, sitting in a flatland tree stand for hours can't compete with sitting on a mountainside.

It would be great to live 183 days a year in CO, WY or MT so I could be a resident, enjoy the summer and hunt the fall, then spend winter and spring here in NC with the grandkids. I guess they call that being a snowbird and I never thought I would want to be one.

Anyone want to swap houses for six months?
