Hey everyone. I'm new to the forum. I signed up after my forum BGH went down the hole. Some friends on there suggested Eastmans and here I am.
Anyway. I'm looking for advice on a late rifle deer hunt I drew in Unit 42 of Idaho. Nov 1 to the 24th. I moved to this area (Boise) about 2 years ago. The hunt looked good statistically so I put in for it but I didn't expect to draw.
From what I heard this is the most remote area in the lower 48 as far as services go. No gas stations ecc. Plenty of roads and trails. I also heard I should take two spare tires, chains, and tons of water.
So far from my google earth scouting it seems like there are many creeks in the area. So I'm wondering if these dry up during the fall? Maybe my google earth photos were in the spring so it shows more water?
Other then that I've never been to the unit. I'm looking to have a ATV or motorcycle on the hunt. I have a great set of binos and spotting scope to help in my search but any advise would be appreciated. I'm looking for that buck of a life time. Isn't everyone?
Any advice on where the deer migrate to when snow falls would be great. I'm not sure where they winter in this area. I'm open to any advice you have. I'm not a rookie hunter but I have yet to bag a buck over 30" which I hope to do on this hunt.
Thanks.
